NBA's Stephen Curry and musicians Selena, Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg are just some of the countless stars immortalized with their own cute Funko Pop figurines. Now you can add yourself to the list.
Funko will let you design a Pop figure in your own image with the Pop! Yourself feature on Funko.com, which opens Tuesday. You use the site's millions of customization combinations to create a figurine that looks like you or anyone else you might want to perhaps gift a figure to.
Each figurine costs $30 and it will be shipped to you.
"You build your figure. There's a lot of choice," Dave Bere, vice president of Pop! Yourself, told USA TODAY. "You pick your skin tone, your hairstyle, your clothes and your accessories. If you have a pet, you can add a pet."
Taylor Swift:Those figurines of the performer for sale online aren't from Funko, but fans will pay $250 anyway
In 2019, Funko began letting customers use Pop! Yourself kiosks to make their own figurines at its stores in Everett, Washington, where it's headquartered, and in Hollywood – the company describes the creations as a "one-of-a-kind Pop!pleganger" of yourself. But this is the first time customers could customize and order figures online.
More options for Pop! Yourself creators planned soon
Turnaround time for online orders will be quick, Bere said. "This isn't something where you have got to wait a month to get. This is (like), 'Hey, I got a birthday party next week, I want to Pop my friend.' You can do that," he said.
Funko plans to continue adding options for Pop! Yourself creators, Bere said. The company already creates figurines with authentic sports logos, and film and TV character costumes. Fans of sports and cosplay could soon be able to create Funko figures of them outfitted in their favorite memorabilia or costumes.
"If those are your fandoms, your identity points, we want to be able to provide that for fans," Bere said. "So it's absolutely going to be in the pipeline and coming sooner than later."
Funko is looking to ramp up its direct-to-consumer sales as some retailers are stocking fewer of its products, interim CEO Michael Lunsford said earlier this month in a press release listing its 2023 second-quarter financials. The company instituted a cost reduction plan, which included cutting about 12% of its workforce or 180 positions and streamlining its product lines. That and the launch of Pop! Yourself is expected to help the company rebound in 2024, he said. Pop! Yourself has been the top seller in its stores, generating more than 20% of each store’s overall sales.
Also new: the Funko Fan Rewards loyalty program, which earns you discounts, prizes and access to exclusive merchandise and fan fan experiences, for interacting with the brand.
